SCAA Holds Well-Attended Convention In Greenville

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The South Carolina Auctioneers Association enjoyed incredible success at its annual convention Jan. 27-29, 2012 at Embassy Suites in Greenville.
Outgoing SCAA President Mike Harper, of Harper Auction And Realty in Mt. Pleasant – along with Convention Chairman Jennifer Moore of The Auction Group in Lexington – led the festivities, which included the association’s annual South Carolina Bid Calling Championship, six hours of continuing education, an advertising award ceremony, a lively fun auction, a real estate course, a membership meeting and an SCAA Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
David Taylor, of Upstate Auction Service in Inman, won the 2012 SCAA Bid Calling Championship. Also placing in the contest, Darron Meares, of Pelzer, won First Runner-Up, and Bill Forbes, of Creswell, N.C., won Second Runner-Up.
The SCAA elected Randy Ligon, of The Ligon Company in Rock Hill, as its President. He will lead a 12-member board for the SCAA, which has been serving auctioneers and their staffs in and around South Carolina for more than 35 years. The SCAA has more than 120 members and associates throughout South Carolina and the United States.

Several other board members were elected at the convention. Meares will serve as Vice President for 2012.  Moore returns as Secretary/Treasurer. J. Tony Adams, of Elloree, and Merle Sharick, of Prosperity, will serve four-year terms as directors.  Gwen Bryant, of Florence, will serve as director through 2014. Harper, the outgoing president, has been promoted to Immediate Past President. Taylor, David Chapman (Aiken), David Watson (Easley), Robert Robeson (Chesterfield) and Rafe Dixon (Sumter) remain as directors on the board.
Dixon, of J.R. Dixon Auctions in Sumter, won the Auction Of The Year advertising award.
U.S. Congressman Jeff Duncan, a former SCAA Vice President, received induction into the SCAA Hall Of Fame.

Save The Dates! ’12 Convention Coming To Greenville

The 2012 South Carolina Auctioneers Association Annual Convention is slated to take place Jan. 27-29, 2012 at the Embassy Suites in Greenville, S.C.

Please make plans to attend our event as we are expecting a wonderful agenda full of nationally-recognized speakers and well-deserved awards.

Attendees can go ahead and make hotel reservations at the Embassy Suites Greenville Golf Resort & Conference Center. The phone number is 864-678-7126, and the Group Code is SBJ. Rates begin at $95/night.

Attendees staying at the hotel will receive a free full breakfast buffet with made-to-order omelet and waffle stations as well as a Manager’s Reception serving beverages and light snacks.

The hotel does have an 18-hole golf course in case you have interest in playing a round while in Greenville.

Some of the highlights of the convention will be the Fun Auction, the South Carolina Bid Calling Contest, the Advertising Contest, Awards banquet, guest speakers and potential Hall of Fame induction.

The Convention Committee is hard at work securing everything to make up the agenda. Forms and the agenda will be placed on the website and emailed to members upon completion.
